The Epicureans
Founded by Epicurus, this school formed the other extreme of the scale weighed down on one side by Cynicism and with Stoicism in the middle.
For Epicureans pleasure was the ultimate good—they advocated for hedonism—but not just in material excess; rather it was in the sense that freedom from anxiety or fear, things that would help people lead a pleasurable life, made up the ultimate aim. In some way, the Stoic concept of a Preferred indifferent can be seen as a response to the excesses prescribed by Epicureans.
